Product-Oriented Environmental Management
Companies are increasingly giving attention to the environmental characteristics of their products. In this book the author investigates the organisation of product-oriented environmental management (POEM) within large firms proactively engaged in environmental management. POEM focuses on a systematic approach to organising a firm, both at the operational and strategic levels, in order to improve the environmental performance of its products over their life cycles. By combining insights from different theoretical perspectives, a firm’s POEM efforts can be considered as a continuous, dynamic capability-building process. This process is influenced by a variety of stakeholders (such as, customers, suppliers, governments) and stimulated by the firm’s desire to acquire a competitive advantage. By developing different theoretical frameworks, and applying these within case studies, this research delivers a valuable contribution to the field of corporate environmental management through providing insights into organisational aspects of POEM. nt> Companies are increasingly giving attention to the environmental characteristics of their products.
