GUIDELINES FOR ECO INDUSTRIAL PARK DEVELOPMENT:

This thesis presents a methodology for eco industrial parks (EIP) development, aiming at supporting its application by the public sector, private sector, financial institutions, universities, professionals in the environmental field, industries and all the stakeholders’ interested in contributing to a more sustainable development around the world. This thesis presents first, an overview on how this concept is being implemented in many developed and developing countries, including Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro state. Based on studies and projects developed worldwide, a methodology for EIP planning was developed and used in order to plan Paracambi EIP, located in Paracambi municipality, Rio de Janeiro state. This thesis concluded that EIP have the necessary elements and potential in order to make changes and to improve Rio de Janeiro State industrial sector structure, contributing to a more sustainable development in the near future.
