Since 2024, Peter is Assistant Professor in the Industrial Ecology department (CML-IE) at Leiden University. He teaches and coordinates the intro Material Flow Analysis course.
From 2021 to 2024 Peter was a Marie-Curie Individual Research Fellowship researcher at TU Berlin, in the Sustainability Economics of Human Settlements group led by Prof. Felix Creutzig.

Peter graduated with a PhD from the Center for Industrial Ecology, Yale School of the Environment, in June 2021. Here he worked in a research group headed by Prof. Edgar Hertwich in the area of energy systems and buildings. His PhD thesis assessed opportunities for reducing GHG emissions from the US residential building sector. He has worked as a researcher in the Industrial Ecology Programme at NTNU, Trondheim.

Peter studied MSc in Industrial Ecology as an Erasmus Mundus sholarshup student. This programme included study terms at TU Delft/University of Leiden, Waseda University, Tokyo, and NTNU.
He graduated with a Bachelor in Energy Systems Engineering (2013) from University of Galway.

Research Interests

Peter's research focuses on buildings, transport, and energy sectors, and employs a variety of methods and tools including material flow and stock analysis, life cycle assessment, environmental input-output analysis, geospatial analysis, and machine learning and other statistical models.
