About

Dr. Xiaomeng Hu is an Associate Professor in the School of Marine Science and Technology at Tianjin University. Her research develops dynamic life cycle assessment (dLCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA) frameworks to evaluate emerging technologies and support carbon neutrality, circular economy strategies, and evidence-based policy. She serves on the Youth Editorial Board of the journal Carbon Footprints and develops SustainOpedia, an AI-enhanced platform for ESG and LCA education and assessment. Her work advances industrial ecology principles through rigorous, context-sensitive sustainability evaluation of bio-based systems, advanced materials, waste valorization, and marine environments.

Details

Dr. Xiaomeng Hu (่ƒกๆ™“่Œ) is an Associate Professor at Tianjin University’s School of Marine Science and Technology. Prior to this appointment, she served as Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at City University of Hong Kong (with Prof. Shauhrat S. Chopra), Postdoctoral Researcher at The University of Hong Kong, and Research Assistant at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
She holds a PhD in Energy and Environment from City University of Hong Kong (UGC Full PhD Scholarship), an MSc from HKUST supervised by Prof. Gordon McKay, and a bachelor’s degree from South China University of Technology.
Dr. Hu specializes in developing dynamic, context-specific life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis frameworks that capture evolving technological, temporal, and regional factors. Her research delivers transparent, policy-relevant evaluations of innovative solutions, including bio-based sophorolipids produced from bakery waste, microalgae for high-value products, electrospun nanofibrous membranes, bio-based radiative cooling materials, and various wastewater and energy systems. By integrating experimental data with modeling and policy perspectives, she reduces uncertainty and generates actionable insights for industry and decision-makers.
Dr. Hu is committed to knowledge transfer, capacity building, and international collaboration. She is developing user-friendly AI tools and educational resources to make rigorous sustainability assessment accessible to researchers, SMEs, and practitioners, while mentoring the next generation of scholars in industrial ecology, marine sustainability, and carbon neutrality pathways.
