Aliyu Umar Sadiq is a Circular Economy Specialist with extensive experience in research, policy advocacy, and the development of innovative solutions for sustainable waste management and resource efficiency. He is currently a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester under the ERASMUS mundus scholarship. He is the Co-Founder of the Ecocykle Development Foundation, a youth-led NGO focused on advancing zero-waste practices and poverty alleviation in Africa. Through his initiatives, Aliyu has empowered over 25,000 women and youth on green skills and environmental education. He recently served as a Visiting Researcher at the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), where he conducted research on EPR transfer for transboundary e-waste flows between Europe and Nigeria. His work bridges policy, practice, and innovation, with a vision to solve pressing environmental and resource challenges while delivering sustainable socio-economic impact.Details

Aliyu has held various regional and national coordination roles, including serving as the Africa Regional Focal Point for the Ashley Lashley Foundation (HEY Campaign), where he coordinated environmentalists across 15 African countries, mobilized funding, and facilitated bi-monthly knowledge exchange forums. As Country Coordinator for Climate Clock Nigeria, he organized Nigeria's largest youth climate action marches in 2023 and 2024, expanding the volunteer base from 10 to 250 youth. His leadership extended to grassroots mobilization, advocacy, and lobbying efforts for stronger climate policies.
Earlier in his career, Aliyu worked as a Research Officer at the National Root Crops Research Institute, where he conducted field surveys, evaluated fertilizer requirements for cassava varieties, and contributed to the establishment of a Climate Change Adaptation Unit.
He has also served as a Community Resource Person for the Climate and Sustainable Development Network of Nigeria, where he played a pivotal role in influencing Nigeria’s Climate Change Bill and Open Defecation Bill through grassroots mobilization and policy research.
Aliyu’s dedication to professional growth is evident in his pursuit of continuous learning. He has completed multiple international trainings and fellowships, including the Climate Change Negotiations Program for Young African Negotiators, the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice, and the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) Fundamentals Course. He has also participated in high-profile global events, including COP27 in Egypt, COP28 in Dubai, and the African Agricultural Adaptation Conference.
