Dr. Brian James Chiu is an architect, esteemed academician, and early career researcher specializing in architecture and urban studies. With a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Reading (2022), a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas (2011), and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (2003), Brian possesses a strong educational background spanning over two decades.
Since starting his architectural career in 2005, Brian has gained extensive practical experience in the industry. His expertise in architectural design, project management, and sustainable practices has allowed him to contribute to numerous projects that meet client needs while benefiting the community.
In parallel with his architectural endeavors, Brian entered academia in 2007. Driven by a passion for education, he has dedicated himself to elevating the quality of architectural education in the Philippines. As a respected faculty member, Brian imparts his extensive knowledge and experience to inspire and empower aspiring architects, nurturing their talents and fostering a deep appreciation for high-quality design and its positive impact on communities.
Currently engaged in postdoctoral research, Brian's focus revolves around urban green spaces, urban studies, ecosystem services, cultural ecosystem services, and ecology. Through his scholarly pursuits, he strives to discover sustainable and innovative approaches that integrate nature and architecture, promoting sustainable urban development and enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.
One of Brian's personal motivations is to make significant contributions to academic research in architecture and the built environment. With a long-term vision, he aspires to establish a distinguished career as a researcher, concentrating on his research interests that have the potential to improve the built environment and communities. Brian's dedication to advancing knowledge and his commitment to excellence were recognized through the Transnational Education Programme scholarship he received in 2018.
Driven by an unwavering desire to create a positive impact, Brian envisions a future where architecture and the built environment serve as catalysts for environmental and ecological sustainability, as well as social well-being. He aims to collaborate with like-minded professionals, institutions, and communities to shape a better and more sustainable future for all.
