I am currently employed as a full professor of Environmental Science and Waste Management at the University of Rijeka, Croatia. My research interest revolves around coupling biological and chemical methods for addressing environmental risks and the development of composite indicators of environmental performance. In addition, I have published in the field of waste management and have worked on several industry related projects in the field of environmental protection and management. In addition to my academic career, I have held the position of the CEO of the first waste management center in Croatia. The center operates a mechanical-biological treatment plant, a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility and a bioreactor landfill. The treatment capacity of the center is 100.000 tons of MSW per year.

I have graduated with a B.Sc. degree from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb with a major in Ecology. After graduation, I have received a master in environmental science from the university of Lund in Sweden and a doctoral degree from the University of Rijeka, Croatia. I have published in established journals in the field of environmental science and waste management, and I have collaborated with several of them as a reviewer. During my academic career I have worked on several industry related project and have a strong interest in knowledge transfer between industry and academia. Also, during a short period I was heading the Cleaner Production Centre at the University of Rijeka. During my career I have been leading both national and international (Horizon2020) grants, have been a mentor to several PhD students and have received awards for excellence in teaching.
