Xiangjie received his Ph.D. in Geographical Sciences from the University of Maryland in 2025 and is now a postdoctoral associate in the department. His work lies at the intersection of economics, geography, and agricultural sciences. His research focuses on climate policies required for just transition, sustainable and resilient agricultural systems, and the environmental and social impacts of consumption, with a methodological emphasis on input–output analysis and integrated assessment modelling.He has published in Nature, One Earth, Environmental Science & Technology, Advances in Applied Energy, Field Crops Research, and other leading journals, and his earlier work was extensively covered in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (WG III, Chapter 2). In addition to his academic publications, Xiangjie has undertaken multiple consulting projects for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the International Labour Organization (ILO), German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and other government and international bodies.
Xiangjie has been an active and dedicated contributor to the ISIE community. Since joining the Student Chapter Board in 2024, he has helped organize a wide range of activities to strengthen connections within the community, including virtual networking events and webinars. More recently, he contributed to the planning and delivery of the Student Symposium at the 2025 ISIE conference in Singapore and spearheaded the launch of the new Buddy Program, which has now become a regular event fostering collaboration between senior and junior members. He is also currently collaborating with the ISIE Career Committee to expand mentoring opportunities through a new Mentor Program. These initiatives reflect his long-standing commitment to community-building and his vision of making ISIE a more connected, supportive, and dynamic network for all its members.
