About
I am currently a professor at the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 2012, I have been studied and worked at sustianable socio-economic metabolism (SEM) research. I have obtained Ph.D. from University of New South Wales (UNSW, Australia) at 2018 with one of most prestigious UIPA award, and then continued research as Postdoc Writing Fellow supported by UNSW. Since 2019, I have been worked at Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences. My research focuses on integrating innovative techniques into the monitoring and management of material systems, including critical minerals, sand, plastics, and e-waste, to facilitate sustainable transitions. I have been developing serveral tools and patents, such as MiningESG, D-W MFA, ReWatch, etc. for such monitering purposes.
I have published various studies in prestigious journals such as Nature Geoscience, Nature Computational Science, One Earth, and Nature Communications. Meanwhile, I have been served as associate editor for Journal of Cleaner Production, and board member for Science of the Total Environment, etc.
My research has contributed to global governance of material systems through the participation in the Wilton Park Conference on Critical Minerals, as board member of the International Round Table on Material Criticality (IRTC), and the International Science Council (ISC) expert group on the global plastic treaty, etc.
Research Interests
• AI for sustainability• Industrial ecology (specialising in material flow analysis, life cycle assessment, and geospatial analysis)
• Critical raw materials (rare earth, lithium, cobalt, palatium) for low-carbon transition
• Sustainable material cycle (and their related impacts on climate change, land use, biodiversity, social welfare)
