Yvonne van der Meer is professor holding the Chair Sustainability of chemicals and materials at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. She leads a research group with 1 assistant professor, 3 postdoctoral researchers and 3 PhDs. Since 2020, she is scientific co-director of the of the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials.

She is also member of the scientific committee of the European Biobased Industries Joint Undertaking and member of the Educational Program Committee of the Master Biobased Materials.

The mission of her research team is to provide suitable methods, metrics, tools, and accurate sustainability assessments of chemicals and materials to guide the transition from a fossil-based to a biobased economy and from a linear to a circular economy.

The teaching program of her research group includes biobased materials, process technology and sustainability courses at the Maastricht Science Program, the bachelor Business Engineering and the Master Biobased Materials.

Yvonne has over 20 years of experience in sustainable chemistry. She is an experienced manager and scientist with a passion for sustainability. She has talent for strategy, translation of strategic goals into successful activities and connecting partners to jointly develop innovation projects with high impact on sustainability. She is result oriented while connecting to people to reach targeted goals and likes to work in demanding environments.
