Colin is an Associate Professor in the Dept of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the University of Limerick, Ireland where he teaches Sustainable Life Cycle Engineering, Electronics & the Environment, Energy Management and Analogue Circuit Design.He has been a visiting research scholar at the Materials Systems Lab, MIT (2013) and the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin (2015).
His research interests cover a broad range of topics in the area of technology and sustainability including Electronics Repair & Reuse, WEEE Management, Circular Economy, Electricity Demand Management, Conflict Minerals, Planned Obsolescence, Waste Crime, Automation for Resource Efficiency & Environmental Sensing.
As Principal Investigator he has been awarded projects by EU FP7, H2020, DG Migration & Home Affairs: Internal Security Fund-Police (ISFP), EIT Raw Materials, Irish EPA, Enterprise Ireland & Irish Research Council.
He Chairs the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) Technical Committee 22 “Environmental Standardization for Electrical and Electronic Products and Systems” the national mirror committee for CEN/CENELEC & IEC standardization activities in the area of Circular Economy & Eco-design.
