About
I am Honorary Associate Professor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society, Australian National University, and also Co-Founder of FootprintLab (see footprintlab.io), the commercial arm of IELab (see ielab.info).
Details
I served as Secretary of ISIE from 2018-2022 and I was Senior Research Scientist at Australia's National Research Agency, the CSIRO for 18 years where I was twice awarded the CSIRO medal. Before that I was awarded a PhD for work in solid-state physics at UNSW. Before that I used my undergraduate degree in Medical Physics to implant pacemakers at Prince Henry Hospital Sydney and research muscle proteins. Before that there was darkness. Apart from a sense of humour, I have broad commercial, academic and research experience that I like to think brings some creative thinking on open ended problems of sustainability and economic development.
Research Interests
My research on sustainable consumption and production takes a multi-disciplinary, integrative approach that intersects with analysis at the macro-economic and micro-economic levels: corporate footprints, urban metabolism, eco-industrial precincts, climate adaptation, and negotiating climate transitions.
