Professor Xuemei Bai of the Australian National University wins this year's Volvo Environment Prize. Lauded as a thought leader in urban sustainability, her research addresses several frontiers of urban sustainability science and policy, including drivers and consequence of urbanization, structure, function, processes, and evolution of urban socio-ecological systems, urban metabolism, urban sustainability experiments and transition, cities and climate change, and urban environmental policy and governance. Ms. Bai has been selected as a lead author of the urban systems chapter in the IPCC 6th Assessment Report and has contributed to numerous other international assessments and initiatives. She is a prolific scientist with over 100 peer-reviewed papers. She recently served on the ISIE Council. The Society congratulates Professor Bai to this distinction and takes bride that one of its own is recognized in such a manner.
