Note: This is a revised version of the advertisement distributed in November 2018.

The University of Michigan announces one post-doctoral research opportunity, beginning July 2019, focusing on research products related to sustainability and development and also the coordination of tasks for the Sustainability and Development Initiative (SDI). The SDI currently consists of an annual conference, and additional components are in development: an online curriculum, publishing options, and a Sustainability and Development Resource book. The postdoc will play a leading role in developing the resource book, which seeks to bring together the best available knowledge about the mechanisms and interventions that have already demonstrated promise for achieving the 17 SDGs. The Sustainability and Development Resource Book will have an initial focus on 1) poverty and 2) hunger. The candidate will undertake literature review and syntheses, while also organizing and facilitating a collaborative process with practitioners and policy-makers to collate data and insights from non-peer reviewed sources. The candidate may also collaborate with other staff and post docs in the implementation of the annual Sustainability and Development Conference, to be held in October 2019.

The successful candidate will have expertise and interests in one or more of the following areas: the Sustainable Development Goals, sustainable development policy and interventions, impact assessment, systematic review methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analytical skills. The candidate will have cross-sectoral/institutional collaborative experience, and experience organizing large conferences or events and have significant experience overseeing projects and personnel. A PhD in Geography, Environmental Science or Studies, Economics, another Social Science, or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Experience working internationally is strongly desired.
