~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are seeking a Research Associate (RA) to work on the EPSRC-funded Assessing Material Efficiency and Impacts in Buildings (AMEIB) project. The RA will work within the research team led by Rupert J Myers in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. AMEIB is a highly interdisciplinary project that aims to understand the extent to which efficient use of novel and status quo materials can reduce environmental impacts in the built environment.
Two key aspects of the role will be to develop computational methodology that spatially links construction materials availability, demand, and materials properties to environmental impacts, and also to develop prototypes of the lowest environmental impact candidate materials. In doing so, the PDRA will play an important role in establishing the nascent Sustainable Material Systems research field.
The successful candidate should have a quantitative background and an interest in sustainability research. We envisage that this person will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Civil, Materials, Structural, or Environmental Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related area.
The RA will be supported by and work among collaborators and project partners internal and external to the University of Edinburgh, including internationally. This research environment comprises experts with expertise spanning Materials Science, to Architecture, to Industrial Ecology. You will be provided with opportunities to disseminate your research in the UK and internationally, including researchers and the general public.
This is a fixed-term appointment for 2 years with the possibility of extension.
The culture of the School of Engineering and the University is open and diverse and we are committed to reflecting that in our appointment process.
Closing Date: 20 November 2018 at 5pm GMT
