Overview of the position:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in transportation infrastructure life cycle assessment (LCA).

This study will (1) establish initial baselines for the GHG impacts of different types of transit infrastructure (e.g., underground urban rail, intercity rail, bus rapid transit) and (2) develop the foundation for planning tools to assess the GHG impact of prospective transit infrastructure projects. This goal of this work is to inform future transit infrastructure project evaluation frameworks and facilitate prioritization of investments to maximize environmental outcomes.

One postdoctoral fellow with a research and/or industry background working in the environmental impacts of transport infrastructure will be hired. The postdoctoral fellow will be a lead contributor to peer reviewed publications, technical reports, conference proceedings and in-depth interactions with research partners.

Description of duties:

The candidates will contribute to:

  • Conducting an extensive literature review on the state of the art in transport LCA

  • Assessing the environmental impacts of case study projects

  • Developing a prospective evaluation framework for assessing the environmental implications of proposed

    projects
    Salary: $57,000/ year + benefits

    Please note that should the minimum rates stipulated in the collective agreement be higher than rates stated in this posting, the minimum rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

    Required qualifications:

  • PhD degree in engineering, or related field awarded within the past 5 years;

  • Knowledge of transportation infrastructure

  • Demonstrated experience with issues of sustainability and GHG emissions

  • Experience managing large datasets containing confidential data;

  • Experience with design/construction documents and software is a plus

  • Excellent communication skills in English;

  • Desire to engage in applied research with near-term applications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and a drive to create their own novel research direction.
