At the Chair of Resource Management and Solid Waste Engineering (Prof. David Laner) at the University of Kassel we are offering a research associate position (75% part time with an option to upgrade to full time, 3-year contract with an option to extend for another two years) starting from September 1st 2026.
Responsibilities within the position are
- Contribution to ongoing research projects with a focus on the assessment and modeling of waste and recycling systems — specifically regarding the optimization of carbon flows in waste management
- Conducting independent research aligned with the chair's key research areas as a basis for pursuing doctoral studies
- Support of the chair’s teaching activities
- Dissemination of new knowledge and research findings through internationally recognized academic journals and conferences
Requirements:
- University degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Resource Management, Industrial Ecology, Recycling Technology, or a related field. The required degree must be obtained by the start date of employment.
- Experience in modeling and assessing waste or resource systems
- Proficiency in German and English
- Motivation to pursue a doctorate in Environmental Engineering or to undertake further academic qualification
The following are considered assets:
- Analytical thinking skills and an independent working style
- Strong organizational skills
- Competence in material flow analysis (MFA) and life cycle assessment (LCA)
- In-depth knowledge of waste and resource management
- Teaching experience at the university level
