Postdoctoral position in resource risk modeling and data analysis

An 18-month postdoctoral position is available as part of the collaboration between the Green Transformation (GT) initiative of the University of Augsburg (Germany), and the two initiatives at the University of Waterloo (Canada): the project RECOVER (Resilience to Climate Vulnerability and Environmental Risk), and the Metabolism of Islands research program. The postdoctoral position is offered as part of the newly launched international network of “hubs of island innovation” (see relevant links below). The postdoc will be formally employed and based at the University of Augsburg (Germany).

The successful candidate will be a key collaborator in (a) conducting scientific analysis and producing scientific outputs, (b) fostering the development of the “Hubs of Island Innovation” network across the world, and (c) providing co-mentorship to junior researchers in the team. Candidates for this position must be trained in industrial ecology method(s), with a doctoral degree in engineering, environmental studies/science, geography, or related disciplines with expertise in resource risk modelling and/or statistical data analysis.

The postdoc will have access to a strong network of partners in different island nations. Despite these partnerships and access to local knowledge, working with Small Island Developing States (SIDS) means working in a data-scarce environments. The skills to be able to work with imperfect datasets, harmonize and model data gaps is critical for the success.

The postdoctoral position is for 18 months (July 2026 to December 2027) with an annual gross salary of approximately EURO 80,000. An earlier start may be negotiated, contingent on budget. The successful candidate will be formally based at the University of Augsburg (Germany), and will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Simron Singh, University of Waterloo, Canada.
