Research Associate in Sustainable Provisioning Systems

Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a proven track record in industrial ecology, energy systems analysis, or related fields to join the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan. This five-year research position offers an opportunity to contribute to a project at the intersection of decarbonisation, circular economy, and nature-positive transitions. The successful candidate will work on modelling structural transitions in provisioning systems for key goods and services (e.g., materials, energy, housing, mobility, and food) and on designing policies and strategies to accelerate these transitions.

Work conditions

• The starting salary is approximately 5,400,000 JPY per year.

• The position is funded until March 31, 2031.

• Social security benefits will be provided.

Qualifications

• PhD in industrial ecology, energy system analysis, or related fields.

• Excellent communication skills in English.

Date of commencement

The start date can be any time between April and December 2026.
