Open Postdoctoral Researcher Position – Sustainability Assessment of Energy Storage Technologies

The research group "Research for Sustainable Energy Technologies" (RESET) conducts research on electrochemical storage systems (particularly Power-to-X and batteries). The post-doc position within the RESET research group is dedicated to further developing and managing an energy technology field.

You will work in the area of evaluating and optimizing the environmental impacts of energy technologies with a particular focus on long-term and thermal storage, e.g., hydrogen, synthetic fuels, or liquid metal storage. The following tasks await you:

  • Conducting life cycle-oriented ecological, economic, and social sustainability assessments (prospective LCA, LCC, Social-LCA)
  • Developing and maintaining tools, models, and databases to support sustainability and life cycle analyses
  • Leading and collaborating in national and EU projects to integrate sustainability aspects within product design, product development, and decision-making processes
  • Communicating results and recommendations to societal stakeholders and partners within projects and transdisciplinary activities. Writing reports, publications, presentations, and organizing workshops
  • Contributing to the development of new research areas and implementation of sustainability strategies and initiatives

We expect:

  • University degree (Master) in engineering, natural sciences, or environmental sciences with a completed doctorate
  • Very good knowledge and experience in life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC)
  • Understanding of sustainability principles, life cycle analysis methods, and energy technologies, as well as systemic analyses in the energy sector
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, organizational talent, and good communication skills
  • Excellent English language skills (spoken and written), basic knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Interest in working in an interdisciplinary and international team
