Job Description
The Department of Food Science at Purdue University has multiple open positions for (i) postdoc research associates, (ii) PhD research assistants, and (iii) MS research assistants for a 5-year USDA-funded project. The hires will join an interdisciplinary team aiming to develop integrated intensive seafood production systems with zero emission. Successful candidates will conduct research on one or more of the following topics:
- Life cycle assessment on food, agricultural, and biological systems
- Modeling of nutrient and energy flows in controlled environment agriculture
- Bioprocess design, integration and optimization
- Microalgae and fish byproduct processing into high-value bioproducts
- Electro-membrane processes (e.g., electrodialysis) for bioactive compound fractionation
Additional duties include: (i) Developing research manuscripts for publication; (ii) Assisting with grant writing; (iii) Mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.
Qualifications
- PhD degree (for postdoc research associate applicants)/MS degree (for PhD research assistant applicants) in Food Science/Engineering,
- Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering or closely related fields.
- Demonstrated research experience related to at least one of the five project topics bullet-pointed in the Job Description above.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary team
- Postdoc research associates require ability to work under limited supervision
