Event Description:
The Industrial Symbiosis & Eco-Industrial Development section of ISIE is excited to launch its new webinar series with an engaging first session titled: “Approaches to Assessing the Potential of Industrial Symbiosis: The UK Case Study.”
This webinar presents the findings of a recent report by Europe Economics for the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). The study outlines a comprehensive methodology to assess the economic potential of industrial symbiosis (IS) in the UK and offers valuable insights into the key barriers, drivers, risks, costs, and benefits of IS adoption.
While focused on the UK, the study’s framework and results offer valuable lessons and practical strategies applicable in many international contexts. The session will explore policy approaches and sector-specific opportunities across cement and concrete, glass, chemicals, food and drink, and agriculture industries—with broad relevance for other economies seeking to advance circularity and resource efficiency.
Deborah Drury, Managing Consultant at Europe Economics and lead author of the study, will present the webinar. The session will be chaired by Dr. Teresa Domenech, Associate Professor in Industrial Ecology and the Circular Economy.
Join us to explore how this evidence-based approach can inform efforts worldwide to scale industrial symbiosis and accelerate the transition to a more circular, sustainable economy.
