International Industrial Ecology Day 2024

Get ready for IE day 2024!!

As we gather to explore the forefront of industrial ecology, we are reminded of the critical role this field plays in addressing the environmental challenges of our time. This year we faced, among other, unprecedented heatwaves, a surge in renewable energy adoption, and significant advancements in sustainability regulations. These developments underscore the urgency and importance of our work.

Join us for a virtual journey around the world on November 21, 2024, at the International Industrial Ecology Day, ISIE's fourth international online event. No packing, no long flights — just valuable insights and connections! Together, we can drive the transformation needed to achieve a sustainable and resilient future.

Participation in IE Day is free for all. Don't miss out — share this major ISIE event with your network and get ready for an enriching experience.

How can you join? Three ways:

1. SUBMITTING A SESSION

We encourage ISIE members and non-members to organize sessions, share your insights, and collaborate with fellow attendees. The only requisite is that the work is related to Industrial Ecology. Get visibility from ISIE to showcase your work or to arrange project workshops!

     See more information below

2. ARE YOU A STUDENT? PRESENT YOUR POSTER

Show the IE community your brilliant ideas and the result of your hard work.  No need to print your poster! Present and opt for one of our three student prizes of $300!

Are you a non-student and would like to be part of the judging team? Please let us know here: https://forms.office.com/e/riRUd4t5bi

     See more information below

3. ATTENDING SESSIONS

Not in an organizing mood? Come learn about the value of the work of industrial ecologists around the world and learn about the key role of the International Society for Industrial Ecology

Stay tunned for info about registration

With the rest of the Organizing Committee, we look forward to seeing you all on November 21st!

 Cristina Madrid-López and Eugene Mohareb

Chairs, IE day 2024

Important dates

  • October 10th: Deadline for poster abstract submission
  • October 15th: Deadline for session description submission
  • November 10th: Deadline for poster submission
  • November 21st: IE day!

How to submit a session?

We welcome sessions on any industrial ecology topic with two session formats: Regular sessions and workshops. Please try to keep your session to 60 minutes. The committee will be accepting 90 min workshop whose interactive character justifies the need for extra time.

Your session will be managed by one IE day organizing team member that will act as node for all sessions in their time and geographical zone. Their role is to avoid overlapping as much as possible. We will maintain the proposed time or come back to you with options if there is competition for your slot.

Please consider:

  • Maturing your description (you have all presenters/organizers and agreed timing) before submitting it.
  • Submitting your session only once and by October 15th
  • We welcome sessions scheduled between Nov 21st 00.00 and 23.59 on your time zone. However, in order to maximize participation, please consider running your session between 7.00 and 15.00 local time.
  • Please double check your time zone in the form
  • Please be sure that you have in place your own virtual participation system (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, GoTo Webinar, etc.) as we will ask for the registration (in case) and virtual room links as well as the description and the links to advertising sites.

Please use this link to register your session: https://forms.office.com/e/KZnaiiyxK1

How to submit a Poster?

We welcome posters from students at any stage on any topic and focus. You can now submit your abstract and we will come back to you with more info about how to upload your PDF file. Please note that the student must be the corresponding author and the person that submits the abstract.

Please consider:

  • Posters in PDF will be available to all participants during all IE day
  • In screen, your poster may look better horizontally
  • We will set virtual sessions for you to answer questions
  • You may submit your abstract until October 10th and your poster till November 10th

Meet the IE day 2024 Organizing Committee

Cristina Madrid-López, PhD, Spain

Dr. Madrid-Lopez is a Research Director at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), where she leads the research group LIVENlab.  Her research studies the environmental tradeoffs of renewable energy system scenarios to advise the energy transition. She co-chairs this year’s edition of IE day and serves as ISIE board member.

Eugene Mohareb, PhD, UK

Dr. Mohareb is Associate Professor in Sustainable Urban Systems within the School of the Built Environment at the University of Reading in the UK. His research focuses quantitative sustainability metrics of urban areas, with a focus on greenhouse gas implications. Specific areas of interest include examinations of urban contributions to sustainable food systems and low-carbon technology retrofits in existing households. He co-chairs this year’s edition of IE day and serves as ISIE board member.

Joe F. Bozeman III, PhD, CEM (he/him), USA

Dr. Bozeman is an Assistant Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Public Policy at Georgia Tech and serves as Co-Chair of the Sustainable Urban Systems section of ISIE. His research focuses on developing equitable solutions for urbanization, circularity, and food-energy-water nexus challenges. His award-winning work has been featured in major media outlets such as the Geographical Magazine and NPR.
