Session 13: Sustainable use of forest biomass
The next session of the SEM section's Perpetual Online Conference is up!
Forest biomass is drawing attention in terms of carbon neutrality which includes circular use of wood products, sustainable forest management and carbon sink in cities.
Although the importance of forest biomass as a carbon-neutral material has been widely acknowledged, how to develop a sustainable system that utilizes forest biomass efficiently leaves much room for discussion. The challenges are different by country and region. In this session, researchers from wide regions and countries share their works and insights, and discuss how we can make the shift to a carbon-neutral society through the use of forest biomass.
Date and time: January 23rd, 11:00-13:00 UTC
Location: Online.
Program:
・Between the use and conservation of forests. Options and constraints from a socio-ecological perspective, Andreas Magerl, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna
・Scenario analysis of carbon stock in forests and wooden houses, Naho Yamashita, Nagoya University, Japan
・Systems for reuse of timber from demolition: the case of cross-laminated secondary timber, Dr Colin Rose, University College London
・Strength and stiffness assessment of secondary timber and cross-laminated secondary timber (CLST), Dr Wenchen Dong, University College London
