The ISIE Socioeconomic Metabolism perpetual online conference

Dear ISIE members,

Due to current circumstances and uncertainties around Covid-19, the ISIE-SEM section has started a monthly series of online sessions to allow exchange in our community even when physical conferences are not possible.

Holding the conference online enables us to avoid not only spatial restrictions, but also temporal limitations – online conferences don’t have to be condensed to a limited number of days like a regular conference. Instead, the ISIE-SEM perpetual online conference will hold its sessions periodically. Think of it as a hybrid conference-webinar series.

Online sessions follow regular session formats – 1.5 h duration, a common theme, 3-4 speakers presenting their research, and time for discussion. Sessions are open – and free – to attend, broadcast live and recorded for later viewing on the ISIE youtube channel. They are scheduled once per month (for now) in alternating hours to accommodate members’ different time zones.

The ISIE-SEM perpetual online conference aims to bring together our community and further advance sustainability science in these extraordinary times, as well as providing a low-barrier introduction to our work for people who are curious about socio-economic metabolism research but are not yet part of our community. It is not intended to replace our biannual section conferences.

Please use the navigation ("Detailed Program") on the left to browse past and upcoming events, or watch recordings of sessions you might have missed!

We’d love to receive your comments and answer any questions you may have – metabolism@is4ie.org

We look forward to meeting you at the first session of the ISIE Socioeconomic Metabolism perpetual online conference!

Best regards,

The SEM section board

Hiroki Tanikawa, Stefan Pauliuk, Gang Liu, Kazuyo Matsubae, Helen Ann Hamilton, Peter-Paul Pichler, Stefan Giljum and Tomer Fishman
