From Evidence to Influence: Writing Policy Briefs in Industrial Ecology (14:00 UTC)
Session Organizer : ISIE Public Policy Section (Corresponding organiser: Ella Jennings)
Institution : ISIE Public Policy Section
Location/ Local Time : London, UK / 3 PM
Abstract :
The industrial ecology community produces extensive cutting-edge research with enormous potential to address current planetary crises. But how can this work be translated into tangible real-world impact? One key avenue is through policymakers. By drafting policies and law, they make decisions that affect human behaviour in terms of the environment. This session introduces the process of turning IE research into impactful policy briefs to support policy decisions that are better for the environment.
Hosted by the IE Public Policy Section, with input from the Policy Impact Unit at UCL and first-hand case studies from industrial ecologists, the session will explore: what a policy brief is; when and why to write one; how to translate IE research into accessible messages; what makes a brief effective; and the challenges of the policy brief writing process.
Through presentations and an audience participation Q&A, attendees can share their own experiences and gain practical guidance on the process of writing policy briefs to maximise the policy impact of their research.
