Current Debates in Industrial Symbiosis: Tools, Policies, Technologies, Business Models, and Collaboration
Format: Facilitated participatory session, organised by ISIE section
Total Duration: 90 minutes

Objectives
• Explore the latest debates and challenges in industrial symbiosis across five thematic areas.
• Share knowledge and experiences from research, practice, and policy.
• Co-create ideas for future collaboration, data sharing, and research networking within the ISIE community.
• Identify actionable opportunities for aligning methodologies, institutional frameworks, technologies, and business models.

Agenda
Welcome & Framing (10 minutes), Dr Teresa Domenech
• Introduction of objectives, format, and themes by session facilitator.
• Audience poll: identifying main research areas of interest.
Thematic Introductions (20 minutes)
• Four lightning talks (3–4 minutes each) providing provocations for debate:
1. Tools & Methodologies for IS Networks, Dr Teresa Domenech; Dr Biji Kurup
2. Emerging Technologies and IS, Koichi Kanaoka, Xiaohan Wu
3. New Business Models for IS, Dr Luca Fraccascia
Participatory Breakout Discussions (35 minutes)
• Small groups explore one or two themes in depth.
• Guiding questions:
o What are the key opportunities and challenges in this area?
o What research or policy support is most urgently needed?
o How can ISIE help strengthen collaboration?
Group Reports & Debate (15 minutes)
• Each group presents one key insight or recommendation.
• Facilitator draws out cross-cutting issues and synergies between themes.
Closing & Next Steps (10 minutes), Dr Teresa Domenech
• Synthesis of outcomes.
• Invitation to continue discussions through ISIE networks, initiatives, and future events.
