Location/Local Time : Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain / 12:00 PM
Abstract :
While there is no doubt that our current linear economic model is unstainable and requires a transition towards a circular economy, there is no commonly agreed methodology to measure or to quantify circularity. In consequence, circular economy is often reduced to recycled content accounting, failing to address the underlying sustainability concerns.
Our session will revise and discuss prevailing circularity indicators within life cycle assessment with a focus on energy and energy storage systems. It will consist of five short pitch presentations (5-7 min), presenting different approaches for assessing circularity within industrial ecology, followed by an interactive plenary discussion to elaborate on their applicability and pertinence, and to chart a way forward to better account for the different circularity concerns in industrial ecology.
Confirmed speakers are:
- Antoine Beylot (BRGM) – Material dissipation and challenges for circularity
- Harald Desing (EMPA) – Ressource pressure approach to design for circularity
- Julia Palomero (GreenDelta) – Life Cycle circularity and the circularity package in openLCA
- (to be confirmed): The Essenz method for measuring resource efficiency and Circularity for policy
