Abstract:

This event will bring together experts from academia and industry to discuss how data, algorithms, and tools are shaping the future of research and applications of life cycle assessment (LCA). We invite speakers who can share insights, innovations, and challenges related to LCA methodologies, computational approaches, or tool development. We host three 1-hr sessions covering the North America, Asia, and European time zones, with different major topics:

North America - AI in LCA
Asia - LCA Databases
Europe - Next-Gen LCA Tools

The Asia time zone session focuses on “Challenges, Opportunities, and Consensus of LCA Databases” because these databases are fundamental to the integrity and accuracy of Life Cycle Assessment. LCA databases house critical data that inform environmental impact calculations, making them the backbone of LCA models. However, maintaining, harmonizing, and expanding these databases presents several challenges, especially in terms of data quality, consistency, and regional differences. As the demand for more sustainable products and processes grows globally, robust LCA databases will become even more essential for accurate decision-making.

This session is important because it addresses the pressing need to improve data sharing and collaboration in LCA across different regions and sectors. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the current landscape of LCA databases, learn about innovative solutions to overcome data-related challenges, and explore emerging opportunities to harmonize global LCA efforts. Through open discussion, we aim to foster dialogue and explore pathways toward consensus on best practices, contributing to more reliable and transparent environmental assessments to advance sustainability.
