Abstract:

Circular (Bio)economy. An economic system that combines the principles of circular economy and bioeconomy. It focuses on maximizing the value of (bio)material resources for as long as possible, minimizing waste generation, and valorizing residues. This approach utilizes renewable biological resources to produce food, materials, and energy, while also emphasizing investment in human, social, natural, and physical capital. The objective of this session is to review how industrial symbiosis influence a circular bioeconomy system minimizing and reutilizing residues to produce food, materials and energy. A Finland case study will be presented, followed by how is possible to make more circular the solar industry, as well as biological systems as fungi could help to produce materials to finally include Life Cycle Assessment as a tool to generate sustainability indicators.
