BACKGROUND NOTE

TERI is proud to host a webinar on "Empowering Circularity: Unveiling the Impact of MSMEs in India's Sustainable Future" on Industrial Ecology Day, November 30, 2023. The event aims to shed light on the pivotal role played by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in fostering a circular economy, thereby contributing to sustainable development in India.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises are the backbone of India's economy, representing a diverse array of sectors, including manufacturing, services, and agribusiness. These enterprises significantly contribute to GDP, employment generation, innovation and exports. The webinar will delve into the various sectors where MSMEs operate, emphasizing their widespread impact on the national economy. The aim is to explore the economic and social dimensions of MSMEs, emphasizing their potential to drive inclusive and sustainable growth.

Recognizing the need for environmental sustainability, there is a growing imperative to nurture MSMEs from their inception, fostering ecologically sensitive practices. The event will underscore the importance of integrating circular principles into the core business models of MSMEs, encouraging responsible resource management, waste reduction, and eco-friendly processes.

The webinar will feature distinguished speakers from scientific and research organizations, each bringing unique expertise and insights from diverse sectors. This diversity ensures a comprehensive exploration of MSMEs' contributions to circularity, offering attendees a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities across industries.

By bringing together experts from various fields, the webinar aims to create a knowledge-sharing platform. Attendees can expect to gain valuable insights into the sustainable practices adopted by MSMEs, fostering a deeper understanding of their role in India's journey towards a circular and resilient economy.

TERI invites industry professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the public to join this insightful webinar on November 30, 2023, as we collectively explore and celebrate the transformative potential of MSMEs in shaping a sustainable future for India.
