International Industrial Ecology Day 2021
Assessing the relevance of integrated green policy actions in the European Union
The overtaking energy transition, along with the ongoing pandemic situation, represent a unique occasion to reshape governmental decisions towards the implementation of more green and sustainable policies. Focusing the analysis to the European Union, the European Green Deal is surely an important step in this direction. These framework represents fertile ground for numerous applications of industrial ecology, such as the one presented in this study. Exploiting a traditional input-output consequential analysis methodology, implemented within a novel database management platform, a set of national policies put in place from European countries are analysed. The results show the relevance and the higher effectiveness of an integrated policy action taken at international level, with respect to individual decisions made by single countries, in terms of economic and environmental impact.
