Dear colleagues,
To tackle new and exciting research questions and become more visible as a field we need better research infrastructure, including databases and data formats, computational tools, and teaching material. Providing such infrastructure under the open science paradigm can help to speed up the development of our field as it bundles the expertise of different people, competences, and research cultures involved. It is also a way to reach out to and include scholars and students in institutions that do not have the financial means or the experience to purchase or develop IE tools from scratch.
The following open science infrastructure for industrial ecology is now available:
- An inventory of open source software for industrial ecology, with contributions from many of our colleagues (https://github.com/IndEcol/Dashboard)
- A Wiki about open science for industrial ecology (https://github.com/IndEcol/OpenScience)
- A (still experimental) open inventory of IE data (https://tinyurl.com/y8lkzaca)
- An open online course for industrial ecology (IEooc) (http://www.teaching.industrialecology.uni-freiburg.de/)
We hope you will find the available material useful, and welcome you as future contributors to the development of open industrial ecology data and research tools!
Stefan Pauliuk on behalf of the IE open science community
