The Industrial Ecology Open Online Course (IEooc) is a collection of online teaching material that documents and explains the core industrial ecology concepts, methods, data, and applications. It serves as guide to new industrial ecology researchers by enabling them to conduct state-of-the-art science for sustainability.
The IEooc is openly available via https://www.industrialecology.uni-freiburg.de/teaching Most of the material is made available under a Creative Commons Licence. It can be used in own teaching, modified and expanded.
Since the 2026 winter update, the slide decks for the lectures are available, too, amounting to more than 1500 slides in total.
Moreover, during the latest update, two new content sections with applications of IE and socio-metabolic research to general sustainability were added, bringing in lots of new perspectives and approaches:
Section Applications 5: Socio-metabolic research for a post-growth economy
and
Section Applications 6: Consumption corridors, decent living standards and socio-metabolic inequality
Hope this will be helpful to the community. The IEooc team welcomes suggestions for improvements or new content!
