We are excited to announce that the “Urban Science and Sustainability” (USS) Summer School will be held in Xiamen, China, from July 6th to 15th, 2025.
Organized by the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IUE, CAS), Sustainable Urban Systems Section in the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE-SUS), International Science Council-Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme (ISC-UHWB), International Society for Spatial Methods (ISSM), and sponsored by Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the summer school is open to graduate and doctoral students worldwide, with funding available for international students.
Program Overview
The ten-day program provides an academic platform to explore urban sustainability, examining the complex mechanisms of urbanization and how technology can foster resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities. Renowned scholars and experts will present on key topics such as urban big data, AI in urban sustainability, and urban metabolism and planning.
Through specialized lectures, case studies, and field trips, participants will engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge theories and innovative practices in urban development. The program offers valuable technical knowledge, research skills, and networking opportunities with leading scholars in the field.
Funding & Selection
🔹 20 international students will receive funding for travel, accommodation, and meals.
🔹 10-20 Chinese students will have accommodation and meals covered (but not travel).
🔹 The organizing committee will review applications and send official invitation letters to selected participants.
🔹 No registration fee.
Application Information
Eligibility: Graduate and doctoral students in fields related to urban metabolism, urban resilience, urban sustainability, and urban adaptation, and AI for sustainable development are welcome to apply.
