Industrial Symbiosis and Eco-industrial Development

Dear PhD Students,

We are pleased to announce the availability of a new summer school titled Managing Sustainable Industrial Systems (MaSIS).

The school will be held in Rome on the 5th and 6th of June 2025.

The Summer School MaSIS aims to provide early-career researchers with a comprehensive overview of research topics addressing the multifaceted challenges of sustainability in industrial systems. It further emphasizes the role of teaching tools for a deeper integration of sustainability into management education.

The program is designed to foster an interdisciplinary understanding of sustainable practices, exploring topics such as ecological product development, sustainable supply chain management, reverse logistics, waste management, and industrial symbiosis. Additionally, it highlights the importance of innovative pedagogical approaches, such as game-based learning, to advance sustainability-focused education and decision-making.

Through interactive lectures, collaborative labs, and hands-on activities, participants will enhance their ability to conduct impactful research while building a strong network of peers and experts in the field. The Summer School is specifically tailored for PhD students and early-career researchers in engineering, management, environmental sciences, and related disciplines, particularly those interested in developing solutions for sustainable production, resource efficiency, and circular economy initiatives.

Beyond technical knowledge, the program offers participants the opportunity to refine their research skills, exchange ideas with leading academics, and explore novel research directions in sustainability. Graduates of the Summer School will be better equipped to address the global challenges of creating resilient and environmentally conscious industrial systems.
