Arpad Horvath Elected to US National Academy of Engineering

The US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced on February 6th, 2024 that Arpad Horvath has been elected to the NAE. Arpad, the Lawrence E. Peirano Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, was elected for his achievements in “environmental life cycle assessment of infrastructure systems”.

Arpad is a long time member of the industrial ecology community and he was awarded the 2005 Laudise Medal by the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE).  He also served as Chair of the ISIE’s biennial conference in 2011 that was held in Berkeley, California, USA.

Ming Xu, the ISIE President, says that Arpad’s election is “Well deserved! It is also a big deal for all industrial ecologists and the ISIE as a whole.”
