Esra Aleisa is an Associate Professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at Kuwait University. She received her master’s and PhD in Industrial Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Her research is devoted to the formulation, modeling, evaluation, analysis and optimization of environmental life cycle assessment applications, mainly in the fields of desalination, and treatment of municipal waste and water. She has served as vice dean for planning and career development at the college of engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University and a consultant in the ministry of oil for strategy development. Aleisa has worked on projects in collaboration with the United Nations Commission Committee (UNCC) in regard to post war environmental remediation; and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on a project on national resource efficiency and cleaner production in Kuwait. She served as an author for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) science, technology, and innovation (STI) report. She is currently a consultant at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), and co-chaired their sixth conference on the Arab-American frontiers. She is a certified project management professional (PMP) and a member of several professional societies.
