The U.S. Geological Survey's National Minerals Information Center is advertising for a few Physical Scientists and/or Economists, GS-11/12 (Full Performance Level  GS-13) to join the  Materials Flow Analysis Section. Positions are permanent full time, located in Reston, Virginia. The positions are open to U.S. citizens. The job announcements opened August 20 and will close on August 31. 

Duties include: 

  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data and information on mineral and material production, consumption, trade, recovery, recycling, etc.
  • Develops new and improves current methodologies for assessing supply risk, import reliance, price elasticities, etc. for non-fuel mineral commodities.
  • Develops supply and demand scenarios based on top-down and bottom-up material stocks and flows models, system dynamics modeling, and/or econometric models.
  • Develops complex spreadsheets, compiles data sets, and archives information for analysis.
  • Disseminates results orally and in writing for international scientific and economic journals.
