NUAcT Fellowship on Hydrogen Integration into Whole Energy Systems
Our research in whole energy systems is expanding with new projects on hydrogen integration, and we are ready to welcome candidates who can support this growth.
Our NUAcT Fellowship on Hydrogen Integration into Whole Energy Systems will build on research momentum, embedding the Fellow into a multi-disciplinary environment which includes our Centre for Energy and the cohort of existing Fellows. Our existing hydrogen expertise covers a broad range of topics including combustion, subsurface storage, transport, production, attitudes, and whole energy systems. There therefore exists a strong community across several Schools, to offer the Fellow a wide range of collaboration opportunities.
Our vision is to ensure that hydrogen (and hydrogen-based alternative liquid) fuels are appropriately integrated in a future equitable energy system, through holistic multi-disciplinary research. There are significant gaps between current levels of hydrogen production, transportation, storage, conversion, and usage, and those anticipated as a requirement for achieving net zero by 2050. At Newcastle University, we are looking to grow our team and welcome candidates working on: hydrogen and Whole Energy Systems analysis; supply chain availability and security (including generation, transport and storage of hydrogen); opportunities, risks and dependencies of hydrogen applications; cyber-physical energy infrastructure; and policy making and social interventions.
Energy Systems research at Newcastle University
The School of Engineering is active in research around the transition to net zero energy systems, with teaching and research in the broad areas of power systems, electrification, renewable energy, digitalization and AI, and energy systems. The School maintains strong connections with industry and has a long and successful track record in completing both industrial and publicly funded research projects; more recently for example it has been successful in bidding as the Co-ordinator of a Hub on Hydrogen Integration.
