Postdoctoral Associate, Techno-Economic Analysis of Recycling Systems

Postdoctoral Associate, Techno-Economic Analysis of Recycling Systems

A position for a Postdoctoral Associate is available at the Center for Industrial Ecology at the Yale School of the Environment. The U.S. recycling industry is in the process of undergoing a major transformation, triggered by a combination of technological advances, updated trade policies, and an increased interest in circular economy solutions. AI-supported robotics is one such novel technology, used in different design setups in material recovery facilities (MRFs), and the focus of a broader research project into which this research is embedded. The interdisciplinary project team develops improved AI and robotics technology, studies human-technology interactions, and develops scenarios of future recycling systems. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct a techno-economic analysis (TEA) of different MRF sizes and designs to analyze the tradeoffs of sorting efficiencies, cost, and workforce implications. Ideally, the TEA incorporates outputs from the other team members. The Postdoctoral Associate will work under supervision of Professor Marian Chertow and Dr. Barbara Reck.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in industrial ecology, environmental and/or sustainability sciences, engineering, applied economics, or a similar discipline. The selected candidate must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the proposed term of the appointment.
