Director of the Institute for Sustainability

The University of Surrey is seeking to appoint a leader of international standing in the field of sustainability to be the inaugural Director of its pan-University Institute for Sustainability.

The Director’s vision will shape the development of the Institute, positioning it at the forefront of world-leading, inter-disciplinary research and innovation that addresses global challenges and real-world problems by combining technological solutions with an understanding of wider social contexts.

Credibility with senior academics, excellent strategic and interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead complex, inter-disciplinary research and innovation programmes, alongside an entrepreneurial approach and the ability to project the work of the Institute to a wide range of external audiences nationally and internationally, are key requirements of the role.

Applicants from across engineering, physical, life, and social sciences are welcomed.

The appointment as Director will be for five years, subject to renewal.  The successful candidate will be appointed to a permanent professorial position at the University.
