Opportunities for Students

Jump to: Study and Research Opportunities | Programs in IE | Additional Funding | Other Sources

Have you ever needed more funding? Ever thought a semester abroad might be just what you needed? Ever wanted to explore other disciplines while simultaneously incorporating it into your research? Have you ever just wondered what else is out there for industrial ecologists?

Here you will find a multitude of opportunities for students, including: additional funding, student sabbatical research opportunities (both internships and opportunities for conducting your research elsewhere), and programs in IE.

This page is updated on a timely basis by the Student Chapter board. Please bear with us if some information seems localized or out of date, we're counting on the ISIE student community (this means you!) to keep it updated. Please email the Student Chapter if you have any student opportunity postings or additions.

Study and Research Opportunities

  • Fulbright Grants for educational and cultural exchange offers opportunities for US students to spend anywhere from 6 months to a year conducting research in a foreign country as well as providing a similar exchange for non-US students to conduct research in the US.
  • The JSPS program enables Japanese researchers to invite their overseas colleagues to Japan to participate in cooperative work and other academic activities. Researchers of all countries having diplomatic relations with Japan are eligible. Applications are submitted by the inviting researchers who wish to host overseas researchers in Japan, so contact your Japanese colleague and inform them about this program.
  • German Environmental Foundation Scholarship Programmes: The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt support Doctoral theses in the field of environmental protection and offers two different scholarship programmes.
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Tennessee offers several internship and postdoc opportunities, including the RAMS (Research Alliance in Math and Science) Program.
  • The Environmental Careers Organization offers numerous internships. They have partnerships with USEPA, USGS, NOAA and many other organizations.

Programs in IE

  • A compilation of academic programs in IE compiled by Kristen Cockerill for the main ISIE website in 2009. It includes over 75 universities worldwide. Want to help us to include some other programs that are not in this list? Send information about courses and graduate courses in your University to is4ie@yale.edu
  • A list of open positions in academic programs in IE compiled by a crowd-sourced initiative (not affiliated with ISIE or its Student Community, but we're told you're welcome to add to it directly).
