    NASA, USAID, The Department of State, and NIKE joined together to form LAUNCH in an effort to identify, showcase and support innovative approaches to global sustainability challenges. LAUNCH searches for visionaries whose world-class ideas, technologies or programs show great promise for making tangible impacts on society in the developed and/or developing worlds.

    The goal of the LAUNCH: Beyond Waste Challenge is to identify 10 "game changing" innovations that have the potential to transform current waste management systems and practices to ones focused on minimizing waste and/or transforming waste into new products. NineSigma has identified you as a party with the potential to respond to this Challenge, or as a contact who might know of someone with expertise in these areas.

    The International Conference on Sustainable Development 2012 is jointly presented by the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Law (ICIRL), the Centre for Research in Social Justice and Policy (CRSJP) at Laurentian University and the Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA) in Canada, and PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies, Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA.

    This conference has the following objectives
    • to provide an interdisciplinary forum on global sustainable development for practitioners and academics;
    • to foster dialogue among various stakeholders, including senior level policy makers, academics, and practitioners;
    • to propose multidisciplinary strategies for economic, sociopolitical, cultural, and institutional changes;
    • to allow stakeholders to share their experiences and research results about all aspects of sustainable human and social development;
    • to discuss the practical challenges encountered in promoting sustainable development and the solutions adopted; and
    • to find global partners for future business or research collaborations.
     

    Paper Submission All full paper submissions will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance the conference, contributions, and readability. The full paper submissions will be chosen based on technical merit, interest, applicability, and how well they fit a coherent and balanced technical program. The accepted full papers will be published in the refereed OIDA International Journal of Sustainable Development. Prospective authors are kindly invited to submit extended abstract or full text papers including results, tables, figures and references. Full text papers (.doc or .docx) will be sent to oida@ontariointernational.org Please submit your paper and abstract as early as possible.
    Journal Submissions The conference abstracts will be published as OIDA Conference Abstracts (ISSN: 1923:6670). All accepted full papers will also be published on the OIDA International Journal of Sustainable Development ISSN: 1923-6654 (print) and ISSN 1923-6662 (online). All Accepted papers will be indexed in SSRN, EBSCO and AMICUS, Library and Archives Canada’s database to, ensure their permanent preservation for present and future generations.

    Parallel Session Presentations:
    These presentations will be held on the first two days of the conference. There will be only a few parallel sessions, but with shorter presentations. This will allow you to have a larger audience for your presentation.

     
    Poster Presentations:
    Posters will be displayed throughout the conference, with specific times for being at your poster for discussion.

     
    Working Groups: Small groups working over the course of two days (August 1-2), to solve a problem and implement the solutions. Working groups are intended to be transdisciplinary, including a diverse range of scientists, policy makers, communicators, and practitioners. They should allow sufficient time for participants to meet and interact to discuss and solve real problems in the field and also to determine how to best communicate the results. Working groups will be given a short amount of time on the final day (August 3) of the conference to report their results in plenary.

    Capturing Value in International Manufacturing and Supply Networks - new models for a changing world

    The call for papers for the Cambridge International Manufacturing Symposium is now available on the event website at www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/cim/symposium2012/call.html. Taking place on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 September 2012, the event will once again be held at the Moller Centre in Cambridge, UK. 

    The theme for 2012 will be “Capturing Value in International Manufacturing and Supply Networks - new models for a changing world”. Key issues to be addressed include:
    • Configuration and co-ordination of international supply chains
    • Off-shoring and on-shoring trends
    • Managing fragmented value chains: new processes, business models and risk mitigation
    • Sustainable supply network design
    • Global industrial systems, changing landscapes and trajectories
